Timothy Beavers, 20, Lawrence, was killed in a head-on vehicle collision about three miles south of Tonganoxie.

The heat of late had been intense and local water use was unusually high. The supply remained good due to the current high level of the Kaw River and highly productive local wells. Many, however, said the time was coming when additional major water supplies, such as the Clinton Reservoir, would be needed for the community.
