Jones to have tests for new foot problem

? Chipper Jones was a late scratch from Sunday’s starting lineup due to a sore foot as he tries to avoid an injury similar to the one that shortened his 2005 season.

Jones said the pain he now has in his right foot is not as severe as the injured ligament in his left foot that caused him to miss 37 games last season.

Jones hit a pinch-hit, three-run homer in the eighth inning of the Braves’ 10-3 victory over Baltimore.

“Chipper said he could hit, he just couldn’t run,” manager Bobby Cox said. “We’ll see how the tests come out.”

Jones already has had X-rays and will have an MRI exam today. He said he hoped a painkilling shot could help him continue playing.

“There’s significant pain right there on the ball of my foot. Take a picture of it, see what happens.”
