Why do you feel it necessary to publish the bankruptcies? It is emotionally and financially embarrassing and I feel if they want to share that info. with friends and relatives that is fine, but don't put it in the paper for all to see. If someone wants to know who went bankrupt, it is a public record, so let them go look it up at the courthouse and not put it in the paper. This lady above did not do anything wrong. She had high medical bills and was forced to go into bankruptcy. I know it is embarrassing emotionally and financially because I went through it 5 years ago.

If you're a local business person it helps to know who's going under.

It's a legal requirement, to post it publically. For the reason cowboy said. When a person files, they are supposed to claim everyone they owe money to. They can't pick and choose. This helps any who they 'forgot' to include know what's up.

It also remains on your credit report for up to 10 years. This is a small price compared to debtor's prisons.
