Ammo-plant hunts slated this year

The Kansas Army Ammunition Plant near Parsons will allow limited hunts this year.

Applicants are encouraged to apply in pairs and must send their hunt preference, full name, drivers license number, social security number, birth date, address and phone number on a postcard for a mandatory background check.

A total of 25 archery deer permits will be issued for an Oct. 3-Nov. 30 season. Successful applicants must pay a $50 federal access fee, in addition to all state permits and licenses.

Hunters must harvest two adult does prior to harvesting a buck. The application deadline for the drawing is Aug. 18.

A total of 20 muzzleloader deer permits will be issued for a Dec. 2-4 season. Successful applicants must pay a $20 federal access fee. The deadline for applications is Oct. 20.

Ten groups with a total maximum of 40 hunters will be allowed to hunt quail Dec. 15-16. Successful applicants must pay a $20 federal access fee. The deadline for applications is Oct. 20.
