From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 29, 1906: Disturbances of a volcanic nature shook the "This is Trail Day for Lawrence schools which emphasizes our pioneer heritage as they open for the spring term. Schools all over Kansas have such events and try to raise funds to mark the Santa Fe Trail properly. : This is appropriately Kansas Day and many special events are planned in Topeka.
