Hall Center seeks award nominations

The Hall Center for the Humanities at Kansas University seeks nominations for the Byron Caldwell Smith Award.

The award is given biennially to an individual who lives in or is employed in Kansas and who has written an outstanding book published in 2005 or 2006.

Send a letter of nomination, which must include a statement regarding the nominee’s eligibility, address and telephone number, and three nonreturnable copies of the nominee’s book to: Smith Award, Hall Center for the Humanities, Kansas University, 900 Sunnyside Drive, Lawrence, KS 66045. Self-nominations are accepted. Deadline is 5 p.m. March 1, 2007.

A committee appointed by the Hall Center director is responsible for the selection of award recipients. The $2,000 award will be presented in September in Lawrence. The recipient of the Byron Caldwell Smith Book Award will deliver a public talk on the subject of the book.

The award was established at the bequest of Kate Stephens, a former KU student and one of the university’s first female professors.
