4-H and FCE news

¢Douglas County Family and Community Education in cooperation with K-State Research & Extension Family and Consumer Sciences is offering a program, “The Power of Knowledge: Preventing Death and Disability from Heart Attack and Stroke,” at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St.

The program will be presented by Dr. Don McSweyn.

To register, call the Extension Office at 843-7058. The program is open to the public.

¢The Douglas County Pioneer 4-H Club met in December at Vintage Park in Baldwin. Members put together cookie trays to deliver to those in need. They also went Christmas caroling. During the meeting, they discussed the Douglas County Food Fair, which will be Feb. 18, and County Club Days, which will be Feb. 4.

The club also met in November when club leaders Larry and LaDonna Wilson passed out awards and pins to members who earned them during the past year. They announced the club won a purple award for the club seal.

¢Emily Krysztof, president, called to order the Jan. 4 meeting of the Palmyra 4-H Club. Megan Brown, club leader, talked about the Douglas County Food Fair.

Wesley Callahan, club member, received $500 from Intervet Inc. to attend National 4-H Congress. Cassidy Burkhart and Garrett Burkhart gave a current event and safety tip. Hayden Burkhart and Caleb Flory joined the club. April Hostetler and Kyle Hostetler gave a project talk on rabbits. Ramie Burkhart and Brianna Krysztof led the club in singing “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.” The Burkharts also lead the club in a recreation activity of eating marshmallows from a string.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ives Chapel in Baldwin.
