Old Home Town
From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 27, 1906: “A horse belonging to Ed Osborn fell exhausted from starvation yesterday near McFarlane’s coal sheds. Another horse belonging to the same man stands in his stable today, so weak from a long fast that its legs are spread out like a hobby horse to keep from falling. Many are eager to do something about the owner’s bad treatment. : Little James Prentiss had his life saved by postman I.E. Eberhardt yesterday when he was jerked out from beneath the feet of a passing horse. A hoop had rolled into the street, the child pursued and a horse and buggy came up. The child was pulled to safety just in time. “
