County commission OKs road resolution

Douglas County commissioners on Wednesday approved a resolution supporting a Kansas Turnpike interchange near Tonganoxie and a Kansas Highway 10 interchange west of Eudora.

The resolution is similar to ones already approved by city officials in Eudora and Baldwin. City and county officials consider the resolution a first step in preparing for increased traffic in the Eudora area if, as expected, a turnpike interchange is built at Leavenworth County Road 1 near Tonganoxie and north of Eudora.

The resolution will be a tool in getting federal funds to improve county roads and highways that would be affected by increased traffic from the turnpike interchange.

The resolution supports improvements to Leavenworth Road 1 and Douglas County Road 1061; improvements to a corridor from Eudora at K-10 to Tonganoxie at U.S. Highway 24-40; and the addition of a K-10 interchange west of Eudora.
