CARBONDALE — Santa Fe Trail shot only 50 percent from the free-throw line and blew a 14-point lead but hung on to defeat Jefferson West, 54-48, in boys basketball Tuesday.
"They hit some big shots," Santa Fe Trail coach Jason Schaffer said. "We didn't hit our free throws and gave them a chance. Luckily, we held on."
SFT (5-7) will travel Friday to K.C. Ward.
Perry-Lecompton 51, Oskaloosa 48
Oskaloosa - Perry blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead but hung on to beat Oskaloosa. Perry-Lecompton (4-7) will travel Friday to K.C. Piper.
SFT girls 48, Jeff West 23
Carbondale - Hannah Hicks scored 12 via four three-pointers, and Brooke Pryor added a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds for Santa Fe Trail.
"We got off to a good start, and we've really been lacking (that) lately," Chargers coach Jayson Duncan said.
Santa Fe Trail (7-5) returns to action Friday at Kansas City Ward.
Baldwin girls 49, Wellsville 38
Wellsville - Baldwin outscored Wellsville 18-4 in the fourth quarter to overcome a three point deficit and win in the first round of the Wellsville Top Gun Tournament. Kelsey Verhaeghe hit four threes and had 19 points to lead Baldwin to the come-from-behind victory.
Baldwin (9-1) will play Anderson County on Thursday in the tourney semifinals.
Eudora 68, K.C. Piper 62, OT
Wellsville - Eudora's Michelle Deluna sent the game into overtime with a game-tying three-pointer with eight seconds left in regulation.
In overtime, Eudora went 10-11 from the free-throw line to complete the come-from-behind victory at the Wellsville Top Gun Tournament.
Eudora (7-3) will play either Ottawa or St. Marys in the tournament semifinals Thursday.
Oskaloosa 52, P-L 44
Winchester - Oskaloosa came from behind to defeat Perry in the first round of the Jefferson County North Tournament. The Bears (5-6) will meet Rossville in the tourney semifinals Friday.
