Old home town – 100 years ago today
From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 25, 1906: “A new departure is being introduced in the training of the university track team for the indoor meet with Missouri in Kansas City. Fraser Hall is to be used at nights as a running track for short distance runners. Missouri is able to work indoors but there are no such suitable facilities here. Yet the KU team seems to have a good chance to win. : University chancellor Frank Strong is slowly recovering from a light attack of typhoid fever. His temperature is nearly back to normal but it will be some time yet before he can resume full-time work at the university. : The Douglas County District court docket for February was published and there are 10 criminal cases and 88 civil cases set for trial. Among the civil cases are a record 16 divorce cases. : The Salvation Army will hold a series of special meetings in an effort to raise new funds for its work. : Forty-five students will pass from the eighth grade next Monday and move on to the high school level. About 125 freshmen will be at the high school next year.”
