Kirkpatrick hits clutch shot to carry Ducks over Hoosiers, 24-17
KEY PLAYS OF THE GAME
First Quarter
Nick Hay got the first bucket of the game and followed it up with a steal and a layup seconds later. The Hoosiers’ Chelsea Casady hit a jump-shot with 1:30 left to give her team its first points. The Ducks ended the quarter with a string of offensive rebounds, but couldn’t get the ball to fall, ending the period with a 4-2 lead.
Second Quarter
After a series of turnovers by both teams, Dylan McKee found the net for the Ducks and started their run. Lucas Warner had a fast-break layup off a feed from Nick Hay, and Kennedy Kirkpatrick sank a shot just beyond the free throw line. Scott Gill broke the Hoosiers scoring run with a put back after a missed Hoosier layup. They were the only Hoosier points of the quarter, and the Ducks took a 12-4 lead into halftime.
Third Quarter
Once again McKee started the quarter scoring for the Ducks after two straight offensive rebounds by Kirkpatrick. The Hoosiers then reeled off four straight points including a smooth jump shot off a well-designed inbounds play. Gill also added another bucket for the Hoosiers to keep them within striking distance. During one series the Ducks’ grabbed nearly 10 offensive rebounds in a row, followed by a bucket from Dayton Valentine, forcing a Hoosier timeout. The Ducks’ held their eight-point lead at 18-10.

Fourth Quarter
Valentine added two more points to start the final period and Gill answered right back for the Hoosiers, beginning a back-and-forth battle that forced a Ducks’ timeout with 3:27 left. The Hoosiers used a full-court press to force two turnovers and convert them into points bringing them within five points with just 1:40 left. Kirkpatrick hit a clutch shot to put the Ducks up seven, 24-17, a lead they held for the final 46 seconds.
