Old Home Town

From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 24, 1906: “For the first time since the flood of 1903, the city has been lighted, for the past two nights, with electricity generated by the water power of the Bowersock Dam. The flood put an end to local water power by ruining the mill machinery but things seem to be back nearly normal and Justin Bowersock is to be praised for his work in bringing this about. The local power mill will soon light the entire city. :The Wakarusa Township board has been contemplating harsh enforcement of the weed and hedge law and this year seems to be the one when that will happen. Notices already are being sent.”
