Kansas City Mo. ? A day before the deadline for Jackson County legislators to vote to put a plan to renovate the Kansas City Chiefs’ and Royals’ stadiums on the April 4 ballot, negotiators Monday said the teams still were hashing out details.

County officials want voters to approve a 3â8-cent sales tax to help pay for $575 million in renovations to Arrowhead and Kauffman stadiums. Officials also want voters to impose a “compensating use fee” on large purchases made by county shoppers outside the state to help pay for a $200 million rolling roof over the two stadiums.

Today is the deadline to put both items before voters in April.

Jack Holland, a Kansas City attorney negotiating for the county, told legislators Monday that the Chiefs and Royals had not yet signed the new 25-year leases, wanting expanded opportunities to develop the Truman Sports Complex in the future and debating how to share construction control with public officials.

But he and others predicted the leases would be signed before the legislators vote on them today.

“I feel confident that we have a deal,” county legislative Chairman Henry Rizzo said.
