UT holds off KSU; Conradt ties Dean

? Erika Arriaran scored Texas’ first five points in overtime, and Tamra Cobbins’ free throw with 7.4 seconds clinched a 71-70 victory over Kansas State on Sunday.

The win is career victory No. 879 for Texas coach Jody Conradt, tying her with former North Carolina men’s coach Dean Smith for No. 2 on the career list for NCAA men’s and women’s coaches.

Daria Mieloszynska scored three points in overtime for Texas (10-6, 4-2 Big 12), including a free throw with 28 seconds left that gave the Longhorns a 70-68 lead.

Cobbins made one of two free throws for the three-point cushion.

It proved critical when Kansas State’s Shalee Lenning couldn’t get off a three-pointer in the final seconds and JoAnn Hamlin’s basket at the final horn left the Wildcats (13-4, 3-3) a point short.

Tied at 62 after regulation, the teams traded the lead six times in overtime.

Tiffany Jackson scored 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Longhorns, her fourth straight double-double.

Mieloszynska finished with 10 points and 10 boards.

Texas has won 30 straight Big 12 Conference games at home.

Claire Coggins scored 26 points, and Hamlin scored 18 for Kansas State.

Kansas State had two chances to win in the final seconds of regulation.

Jackson fouled out with seven seconds left, and Lehning, a 55 percent free-throw shooter, missed both attempts, and Coggins missed a baseline jumper.

Kansas State will play host to Kansas on Wednesday, while Texas will travel to Oklahoma.
