Wathena withstands Eagles
Wathena ? Veritas Christian forged a tie after trailing by 13 points Saturday, but settled for a 61-56 high school boys basketball loss to Wathena in the Elwood Invitational.
“I’m real proud of the guys for not giving up,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “They kept at it and got back in the game.”
Veritas, which finished sixth in the tournament, tied the game at 56 with one minute remaining, but Wathena scored the last five points.
Marcus Holman led Veritas with 18 points. Mark Randtke, who made the all-tournament team, had 16 points.
Veritas (8-6) will travel Friday to Manhattan to face Flint Hills Christian.
