Warming up today into the 50s

Snow in the forecast for Friday night

Lawrence’s temperatures were in the teens this morning. But a warm up is on the way, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We’re heading up to 53 degrees by this afternoon,” Schack said. “It looks like an enjoyable day today. Our temperature will be well above average.”

At 8:15 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 18 degrees, the humidity was 84 percent and winds were calm, with partly cloudy skies.

“We’ve been the coldest spot on the (Kansas) map all morning,” Schack said.

More clouds arrive by midmorning, with the temperature climbing to 45 degrees by noon, then to 53 degrees by 4 p.m., Schack said. Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph, she said. The average temperatures for this date are 39 degrees for the high and 20 for the low.

Overnight, clouds will clear out and the temperature will fall to a low of 31 degrees by early Thursday morning, Schack said.

Thursday’s high temperature will climb to 53 degrees, with partly cloudy skies.

Friday morning’s low temperature will be 30 degrees, climbing to a high of 38 degrees on Friday afternoon.

There’s a chance for rain Friday afternoon, changing over to snow on Friday night, Schack said.

“We’ll have to watch for some accumulating snow on Friday night,” she said.
