Sen. Clinton stands by plantation comment

? Sen. Hillary Clinton on Tuesday night firmly stood by her remarks comparing the Republican-led House of Representatives to a plantation.

Asked if she regretted the comment, the New York Democrat said, “Absolutely not. As I have said many times before, Congress is run in a top-down way.”

Clinton’s aides also rushed Tuesday to note that she wasn’t the only one to play plantation politics. So has former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Clinton’s campaign pointed out in a damage-control e-mail to supporters.

Clinton sparked headlines and Republican outrage after saying at a Martin Luther King Jr. Day event in Harlem that the House “has been run like a plantation – and you know what I’m talking about.”
