Wizards ride Arenas’ hot hand in OT

Washington secures seventh straight victory over Southeast Division foe

? Gilbert Arenas scored seven of his 33 points in overtime Saturday night, and the Washington Wizards beat Atlanta, 114-106, their seventh consecutive victory over the Hawks.

Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler each finished with 23 points for the Wizards, who have won three straight overall.

Joe Johnson led the Hawks – who have lost four in a row – with 23 points.

Pistons 114, Bobcats 91

Auburn Hills, Mich. – Richard Hamilton led a balanced attack with 19 points, and Detroit beat short-handed Charlotte.

The Bobcats dressed only 10 players, as Sean May (knee) and Jake Voskuhl (ankle) stayed home because of injuries. Charlotte has lost three straight and seven of eight, while the Pistons (29-5) have won five of six.

Hornets 86, Rockets 80

Houston – Chris Paul had 17 points, six rebounds and five assists in his third game after injuring his right thumb to lead New Orleans.

Juwan Howard had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Rockets, who fell to 0-11 without Tracy McGrady, who has missed Houston’s last three games because of back spasms.

Mavericks 110, Nets 77

Dallas – Josh Howard scored 29 points, and Keith Van Horn added 23, going 5-for-5 from three-point range in the first half, in Dallas’ 11th straight win against New Jersey.

Jason Kidd scored 19 points for the Nets.

Spurs 80, Grizzlies 79

San Antonio – Tim Duncan made a layup off an inbound alley-oop pass from Manu Ginobili with 7.2 seconds left to lift San Antonio over Memphis.

Ginobili scored 20 points for the Spurs, who led by 15 points midway through the third quarter before Memphis charged back behind Bobby Jackson.

Suns 115, Cavaliers 106

Phoenix – The Suns overcame a 46-point performance by Cleveland’s LeBron James for their ninth victory in 11 games.

James told USA Basketball chief Jerry Colangelo before the game that he would play for the U.S. team at this year’s world championships and the 2008 Olympics, then put on an all-world show that included eight assists and seven rebounds.

Nuggets 100, Bucks 93

Milwaukee – Carmelo Anthony scored 38 points, and Denver coach George Karl won in his return to Milwaukee.

Michael Redd scored 25 points, but Milwaukee never led and lost for the fifth time in seven games.

Pacers 91, Bulls 89

Chicago – Stephen Jackson scored 21 of his 29 points in the second half, and Anthony Johnson’s basket with 3.9 seconds remaining sent short-handed Indiana past Chicago.

Already without Ron Artest, the Pacers had another setback as they had to play most of the game without Jermaine O’Neal. Indiana’s leading scorer and rebounder sprained his left ankle with 6:46 left in the second quarter and never returned to the bench.

Lakers 110, Warriors 104

Oakland, Calif. – Kobe Bryant scored 10 of his 38 points the final 41â2 minutes to lead Los Angeles over slumping Golden State.

Jason Richardson scored a season-high 37 points, and Baron Davis got his fifth career triple-double for the Warriors, but Bryant took over the fourth quarter with four quick baskets in a tight game.

Heat 100, Jazz 94

Salt Lake City – Dwyane Wade followed his third career triple-double by nearly getting his fourth, finishing with 31 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in Miami’s victory over Utah.

Shaquille O’Neal had 14 rebounds and 12 points despite two quick fouls in the first quarter.

Andrei Kirilenko had 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Jazz.

Clippers 98, SuperSonics 72

Los Angeles – Chris Kaman tied a career high with 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds before sitting out the fourth quarter as Los Angeles breezed past Seattle.

Rashard Lewis scored 22 points for the SuperSonics, while Ray Allen served the second game of his three-game suspension for fighting with Orlando’s Keyon Dooling.
