Penny and Matthew Tuckel, Lawrence, announce the birth of their daughter, Eve Elaine Tuckel, born Dec. 25, 2005, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Paternal grandparents are Larry Tuckel and Mary Gras, both of Lawrence. Maternal grandfather is Leroy Strasser, Des Moines, Iowa. Great-grandmother is Opal Tuckel, Lawrence.

Kelly Knipp and Jim Beets, both of Basehor, announce the birth of a daughter, Brianna Jewell Beets, born Nov. 21, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Brianna has two sisters, Taylor and Jordan. Grandparents are Jerry and Kim Neis, Eudora, and Terry and Sally Beets, Edwardsville. Great-grandmothers are Katherine Neis and Doris Schehrer, both of Eudora.

Quail Run School’s Cole Reams won the individual, first-place trophy in the K-3 section of the Bridger Middle School Chess Tournament Jan. 7 in Independence, Mo.

Cordley School claimed the team third-place trophy in the K-3 section.

Top medal winners from Lawrence were Roy Wedge, Central Junior High School, sixth place in K-12, and Lucas Suchy, Wakarusa Valley Elementary School, ninth place in K-6.

Other medal winners were: Thomas Reams, Southwest Junior High School, ninth, and Douglas Rawlings, South Junior High, 11th, K-12 section; and Michala Ruder, Cordley, 19th, K-6 section. Winners in the K-3 section were Sam Stephens, Cordley, fifth; George Wedge, Cordley, 12th; Robert Newman, Wakarusa Valley, 15th; and Roscoe Bradt, Cordley, 16th.

Carl Anschutz, a medical student from Kansas University’s School of Medicine in Wichita, is studying in Lawrence for four weeks. He is participating in a rural internal medicine experience with Dr. Gerald Pees, clinical assistant professor in internal medicine. His rotation began Jan. 3.

Lynne Sauer, daughter of Ted and Gay Sauer, of Lawrence, has been named to the College of Education Dean’s List at Missouri State University for the fall 2005 semester. She also was selected for membership in Phi Eta Sigma national honor society.
