Sunny start to the day

Chance for an isolated shower tonight

Lawrence gets off to a sunny start today, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“The birds are out. The sun is shining. It’s a beautiful day,” Schack said. “There’s a lot of sunshine in the forecast to start out the day.”

But a cold front moves in late this afternoon, bringing cloudy skies and a chance for some rain overnight, Schack said.

At 8:15 a.m., the temperature in Lawrence was 30 degrees, the humidity was 81 percent and winds were from the east at 3 mph. Skies were mostly clear.

Today’s high will reach 56 degrees. Winds will be from the southwest, switching over to northwest from 8 to 15 mph.

A Pacific cold front will arrive around 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. today, bringing cloudy skies, Schack said. Winds will increase tonight to 10 to 20 mph, coming from the northwest, she said.

“We have a slight chance for a very isolated shower in northeast Kansas,” Schack said.

Clouds will then break up overnight, with the temperature falling to a low of 30 degrees by early Friday morning, she said.

Friday’s afternoon high temperature will be 47 degrees.

Mostly sunny skies are expected for the weekend, she said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 24 degrees, climbing to a high of 53 by Saturday afternoon.

Sunday’s temperatures will start with a low of 32 in the morning, rising to 56 by Sunday afternoon.
