Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 12, 1906: “The first game of the university basketball team will be played in Lawrence next Monday night in the Snow Hall gymnasium and the opponent, Chilocco, promises a good game. The Indians have a good team and the KU team with Capt. Milton Miller, Tom Johnson Forrest and Allen will be pressed to win. : The Stranger Valley people are planning to begin work on the Kansas City to Lawrence rail line in the next 30 days. There has been controversy of the project and many are saying they will believe there is success when they see it. : Prof. L.L. Dyche of the university, who has done a lot with the breeding of chickens, has been again chosen president of the state poultry association. Dyche has had great success and is well-regarded in his field. : Lawrence intends to wage war on vagabonds and already has arrested a number of ‘vags’ who are then forced to leave town. There are too many disreputables and hangers-on, particularly around dives and clubs.”
