Boy survives after head is run over

? “All I remember about it was that when the truck ran over my head, I could hear my bones crack.”

That’s what Cameron Schuette, 11, had to say Tuesday about the accident two days earlier in Michigan City in which his grandfather backed a pickup truck over his head. He’d been sitting on the tailgate of the truck with his 13-year-old brother and either jumped or fell off.

The grandfather, Ron Shurley, said he at first thought he ran over a piece of wood. He got out, found the boy and took him to the hospital after spotting blood running out of the boy’s ear. Cameron’s mother, Shannon England, said it was a “miracle” he hadn’t been injured worse.

“Maybe he has an exceptionally hard head,” Shurley said.

Testing at the hospital showed Cameron suffered a slight hairline skull fracture. England said he also had road rash on his neck and face, a black eye and a cut on his ear canal. He was released from the hospital Tuesday.
