Nuggets drop Suns in 3 OT

? Carmelo Anthony scored 43 points, including the game-winner with 2.9 seconds left in the third overtime, sending the Denver Nuggets past the Phoenix Suns, 139-137, Tuesday.

After Anthony swished a short jumper, Eddie House was short on a long jumper after a timeout. Shawn Marion tried unsuccessfully to toss it back up as the buzzer sounded.

Earl Boykins added a career-best 33 points for the Nuggets in their first triple-overtime game in a decade. It was the Suns’ second triple-overtime game this season alone: They lost Jan. 2 at New York.

Raja Bell led Phoenix with 30 points, followed by Marion with 28 and Steve Nash with 26.

Anthony scored with 2:30 left in the third overtime to give the Nuggets a 131-129 lead, but he inadvertently was kicked in the face by teammate Eduardo Najera and was bleeding during the timeout. He stayed in the game despite watery eyes.

Nash fouled out with 35 seconds left in the third overtime. Ten seconds later, Bell fouled Andre Miller, who sank both free throws for a 137-135 lead.

House hit a jumper with 12 seconds left, tying it at 137 and setting up Anthony’s game-winner – with tissue paper stuffing his left nostril to keep blood from gushing out.

Celtics 98, Hawks 94

Atlanta – Ricky Davis converted a three-point play with 1:40 left to give Boston its first lead since the opening quarter, and the Celtics held on. Paul Pierce scored 27, and Davis added 21 to lead the Celtics, who denied Atlanta its first three-game winning streak since April 2004.

Knicks 92, Cavaliers 84

Cleveland – Jamal Crawford scored 26 points, and New York held Cleveland to 12 points in the fourth quarter and won its fourth straight. LeBron James finished with 36 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. He became the first NBA player to get at least 30 points, seven rebounds and five assists in seven straight games since Oscar Robertson in 1966.

Bobcats 111, Rockets 106, 2OT

Charlotte, N.C. – Raymond Felton made a running jumper with 20 seconds to play in the second overtime, then hit a pair of free throws to seal the victory. Charlotte’s Emeka Okafor re-injured himself late in the second overtime. He had to be helped from the court, his right shoe off, after crashing hard under the basket.

Grizzlies 99, Kings 85

Memphis, Tenn. – Mike Miller had 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, recording the Grizzlies’ first triple-double since moving from Vancouver. Pau Gasol led Memphis with 27 points. Mike Bibby had 26 for the Kings.

Pistons 96, Hornets 86

Oklahoma City – Richard Hamilton scored 30 points, including 20 in the second half, and the Pistons rallied late. The Hornets lost their second straight game despite the unexpected return of rookie point guard Chris Paul, who started despite a torn ligament in his right hand.

Bucks 95, Timberwolves 92

Milwaukee – Michael Redd scored 22, and the Bucks snapped a three-game losing streak against the slumping Timberwolves. Marko Jaric rallied the Wolves in the final minute, scoring 21, but missed a three-pointer as time expired.

Spurs 96, Nets 91

San Antonio – Tim Duncan scored 27 points, going 13-for-15 from the free-throw line, and the San Antonio snapped New Jersey’s 10-game winning streak. The Spurs withstood a late surge from the Nets and extended their home winning streak to 12.

Clippers 90, Magic 73

Los Angeles – Cuttino Mobley scored 18 for the Clippers, who sent the Magic to their fifth straight road loss. The Clippers were without Elton Brand, who bruised his right hip Dec. 23 at Charlotte. Jameer Nelson led Orlando with 18 points, and DeShawn Stevenson added 13.
