Late foul costs OU

Oklahoma guard Austin Johnson, right, tries to block the shot of Missouri guard Jason Horton. The Tigers beat the No. 22-ranked Sooners, 71-69, Tuesday in Norman, Okla.

? Missouri’s Marshall Brown knew the strengths of Oklahoma’s frontcourt tandem of Taj Gray and Kevin Bookout and used them against the Sooners.

Brown scored a career-high 21, including two free throws with 1.8 seconds left, lifting Missouri to its fifth straight victory, 71-69 over No. 22 Oklahoma (9-4 overall, 0-2 Big 12 Conference) on Tuesday night.

After having the ball knocked away by Terrell Everett, Missouri’s Jimmy McKinney recovered it on the floor and passed to Brown in the left corner. Brown elevated for a three-pointer, and officials called Gray for a foul.

“He’s a good shot blocker, and I knew he had a run on me, so he was going to get a good jump,” Brown said. “I just wanted to get him in the air and try to get a little contact.”

Brown missed the first free throw before hitting the second and third.

“We’re three points away from being 2-0 in the league, but we’re 0-2,” Oklahoma coach Kelvin Sampson said.

Thomas Gardner, the Big 12’s top scorer at 19.9 points per game, scored 21 for MU (9-4, 2-0).
