Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 8, 1906: “Two boys who have given local police a lot of trouble for a long time with break-ins and theft have been sent to the Reform School. They were given many chances to change and now must pay the price of confinement. : An earthquake shock was felt in Lawrence about 6:30 last night, being accompanied by a rumbling and roaring sound, much resembling a strong wind. It frightened people all over town but it lasted only a few seconds. Dishes rattled and some houses shook but there was no serious damage and there were no injuries. It was a general event having been felt over much of the town. : Apparently there were also some shocks felt in Topeka from the earthquake last night and many parts of Kansas reported shaking and noise. There were no later tremors and experts are trying to determine the source of the ‘quake and whether there is danger of followups.”
