I would like to see the citizens of Lawrence put as much effort into a solution to the homeless problem as they have towards the smoking ban. As usual, people only become passionate about an issue when it's right in their face. Otherwise they can turn their heads to avoid the eye-sore of a homeless person sleeping on the sidewalk. The homeless need real help. Not just a closet to hide in.

....at least the homeless will only be able to camp in residential neighborhoods and NOT in our downtown. i can't wait to see them living on our sidewalks in front of our homes. when it happens this summer, i will be willing to give them some money to sleep on the front yard sidewalks of all the homeless advocates who aren't homeless themselves.....let's see....there was some hate filled against Christians person who wrote a ripping editorial because some church decided to build a new church, and of course there is that one person who lobbied for the living wage, homeless situation and the empty T buses. if i come across a homeless person sleeping on the sidewalk in front of my house, i'll give them a few bucks and pay for the cab fare to go stay on the sidewalk in front of these activists' homes. i'm sure their neighbors will be accepting.

i can't wait for this summer.

I'd like to see an honest discussion about why we have so many more homeless people than other communties our size.

That discussion would have to confront the fact that most/all of the homeless people in Lawrence came here from somewhere else.

Then we could ask ourselves why they come here.

Then we would realize they come here for the services we provide.

Then we could figure out how many of the world's homeless Lawrence should take care of.

Then we could set our finances up to take care of that number.
