A preliminary hearing for a man charged with the murder of his 5-month-old daughter was delayed today when the case took a new twist.

The girl's mother was charged Thursday as an accomplice in the death.

Brandi Mae Hendrickson, 24, Lawrence, is accused of aggravated endangering of a child in the death of her daughter, Risha Lafferty, in October 2005. Hendrickson is free on her own recognizance and has been ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing Jan. 26 in Douglas County District Court.

The girl's father, Jay D. Decker, 26, was arrested and charged in October with first-degree murder. He is accused of killing the baby by child abuse. Decker's preliminary hearing was to be held Friday before Judge Paula Martin, but prosecutors requested a continuance because of a "problem with a witness." The witness wasn't identified but Hendrickson was likely to be one of those witnesses.

Very interesting. I can't see how they could really send the women to jail, but if I was her, I'd give the DA what they wanted and help send the guy to jail for along time.

From what I understand he has previous cases pending with SRS, so her staying with him is endangering her child.

Don't forget just because someone is charged or arrested that doesn't mean they're guilty - Innocent Until PROOOVEN Guilty. Isn't that what our system is based on? No one has proven anything yet.

Not to mention that any assumptions about the case so far other than those totally involved are based on virtually no information except the obvious. The baby died and now both parents have been arrested. Obviously some people are pretty trigger happy and want both parents to fry fry fry.

Maybe he not only abused the child but also abused the mother too. And maybe that's why she may be hesitant to cooperate - its difficult to make an abused woman testify against the man beating her because of the hell she's been through. So, perhaps the D.A. has decided to reward her lack of cooperation by charging her too? That's a warm and fuzzy thought. Brrrr...

ok, i'm a firm believer in innocent until proven guilty...until it involves the life of a 5 month old baby. Send em both to jail forever...

I love actually knowing what's going on! This is great...thank God they're finally seeing that something hasn't been right from the beginning with Brandi. We only have to wait just a little longer until everything is fixed!

This is a note to go with jecagirl's post: I am basically going to simply put a stop to this belief. He does not have anything with the SRS, the only thing that would get in the "way" is that he has been to jail before and it was for petty larceny and for breaking parole. He does not always have the best judgement, but as you probably already know I am completely on his side of things and know that he would not hurt a child.
