From the Lawrence Daily World for Jan. 4, 1906: "The board of education met here yesterday and decided that a school savings bank to help pupils learn how to save money is a good idea. The system has worked successfully at Ottawa and elsewhere and is worth a try. : And now it is Missouri that has a scandal over school funds. Missouri always has chased along behind and patterned after Kansas. : Gov. E.W. Hoch and William Allen White, the noted Emporia editor, are expected to make the two leading speeches at the annual Commercial Club banquet here."
