Zeno saves day for Tech

? Martin Zeno scored 15 points, hit a tiebreaking free throw and grabbed a steal in the game’s final seconds to help Texas Tech fight off Texas-El Paso, 61-60, Sunday.

Zeno broke a 60-all tie by converting one of two free throws with 1:04 remaining.

After UTEP’s Jason Williams missed a pair of free throws a second later and Tech’s Daryl Dora missed a three-point attempt, the Miners rebounded, called timeout and set up their final possession.

With the final seconds ticking down, UTEP tried to pass the ball inside to John Tofi, but Zeno broke up the play and grabbed the loose ball. He passed the ball downcourt before he could be fouled as time ran out.

Zeno’s efforts gave Texas Tech (8-6) its second straight victory.

Jarrius Jackson scored 14 points, and Dior Lowhorn and Terry Martin each scored 13 for the Red Raiders.

The Miners (7-4) had erased a 12-point Raider lead in the final 6:08.

Tofi led the Miners with 15 points.

Williams added 14.
