Gov. John Carlin’s severance tax proposal, amended to carry a $252 million revenue tag, went to the full membership of the Kansas House without a recommendation for or against passage. The measure was expected to be approved.

City officials defended a commission decision to pay nearly $143,000 to a construction firm for what it said was extra work required on the Clinton Water Treatment Plant. The firm had been seeking the money for some time.
