From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 26, 1906: “A habitual drunk here was hauled into court and fined for being drunk but the court did not convict him for carrying a gun. He reportedly peppered shots around the feet of people at a North Lawrence bar but he did not receive any notable punishment. Again, there are too many gun-toters in Lawrence. : Candidate Henry Allen says Congressman Justin Bowersock ‘willed’ Allen his seat (Bowersock was not running again). What rot! As though a seat in Congress were a personal chattel!”
