Warm and windy this afternoon
Temperatures climbing into 60s, gusts up to 37 mph
Hold on to your hat this afternoon – Lawrence was getting some wind gusts as high as 37 mph at noon.
“We’ll be warm and windy today,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “South winds will pick up rather strong today, with those temperatures soaring into the mid 60s.”
At noon, Lawrence’s temperature was 61 degrees, the humidity was 20 percent and winds were from the southwest at 24 mph, gusting to 37 mph.
This morning’s low temperature bottomed out at 21 degrees. The average low temperature for this date is 29 degrees. The record low was minus 2 degrees, set in 1913.
“We’re heading up to 66 degrees this afternoon,” Schack said. The average high temperature for this date is 49 degrees. The record high was 84 degrees, set in 1930.
Overnight, the low will drop to 28 degrees by early Saturday morning, Schack said. Winds will be from the north at 10 to 15 mph overnight, helping to bring in a Canadian cold front for Saturday, she said.
Saturday afternoon’s high temperature will rise to only the mid 40s, Schack said. Saturday’s high will be 44 degrees with winds from the north at 10 to 15 mph and partly cloudy skies, she said..
Sunday’s morning low will be 17 degrees, with Sunday’s high climbing to 50 degrees and partly cloudy skies, she said.
