Get the shears

What an East Lawrence property owner needs is a helpful neighbor with a pair of pruners.

What does it take to get a bush trimmed?

Shrubbery at the corner of Harper Street and East 25th Terrace reportedly obstructed the view of a motorist who struck and killed a 6-year-old at the intersection three weeks ago. A number of drivers who regularly drive through the intersection confirm that the large honeysuckle bush poses an ongoing hazard, especially when it is leafed out. (Spring is just around the corner!) The owner of the property on which the bush sits says she has contacted the city more than once to ask that they trim the bush.

What are we waiting for? Another fatal accident?

Fred DeVictor, director of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department said Monday that the city had received a formal complaint and started the process to get rid of the obstruction. However, there seems to be no rush. DeVictor said he didn’t know when the complaint came in or what the schedule was for trimming or removing the bush.

We know the wheels of bureaucracy often move slowly, but this is ridiculous. Will someone with a pair of pruning shears go over and help the elderly owner of this property take care of this driving hazard?
