Despite a planning staff recommendation to deny rezoning for a regional shopping mall in southwest Lawrence, a spokesman for the mall developer said the mall would help the city and its shoppers. Support for the mall rezoning came form Don Jones, a representative of Jacobs, Visconsi, Jacobs of Cleveland. Jones and other members of the firm were to get a chance to present their case when the city-county planning commission considered the rezoning request at a special public hearing.

Several legislators joined State Sen. Ed Reilly in warning the Kansas University Medical Center of the pressing need to solve the housekeeping problems that had been reported at KUMC and verified by school officials.
