Young powers Baylor past Texas Tech, 73-60

? Sophia Young scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead No. 12 Baylor to a 73-60 victory Sunday over Texas Tech.

Rachel Allison added 16 points and Jessica Morrow 15, both career highs, for the Bears (19-5, 9-4 Big 12 Conference).

The Raiders (12-12, 7-6) tied the score at 52 on a layup by LaToya Davis with just more than 11 minutes remaining. But Baylor put together a 12-4 run and took a 64-56 lead on Allison’s layup with 4:55 to play.

Texas Tech managed to cut Baylor’s lead to six points twice, the last time at 66-60 with just over two minutes showing on the clock.

Baylor was perfect at the free-throw line, hitting all 20 foul shots, 14 of them in the first half. Young and Angela Tisdale both hit all eight of their foul shots. The 20-for-20 performance came one short of tying Missouri’s Big 12 record set in a game against Oklahoma on Jan. 28, 2004.

Davis led all scorers with 23 points.

Young’s layup gave Baylor a 10-8 lead that the Bears never relinquished.
