Warmer weather moving in
Temperatures headed up to the 50s on Wednesday
Tired of cloudy skies and arctic-like cold temperatures? Sunny skies return this afternoon, with temperatures climbing into the 40s, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.
“This is just the beginning of the warm-up. We are heading into the 50s by the midweek,” Schack said.
Lawrence went into a deep freeze over the weekend, with temperatures dipping down to single digits on Saturday, with below zero windchills. However, the arctic-like cold is moving out, Schack said.
At 11:45 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 31 degrees, the humidity was 43 percent and winds were from the southwest at 8 mph, making the windchill 24 degrees. Today’s morning low was 20 degrees. The average low temperature for this date is 27 degrees and the record low temperature was 1 degree, set in 1918.
“You’ll definitely need your coat on the way out today,” Schack said. “By 10 or 11 the clouds will be pushing out. And by the noon hour, we should have all sunshine.”
Today’s high temperature will reach 41 degrees, with winds 8 to 12 mph, she said. The average high for this date is 47 degrees. The record high was 73 degrees, set in 1981.
Overnight, temperatures will drop to 19 degrees, with winds from the west-southwest at 3 to 5 mph, by early Tuesday morning, Schack said.
Tuesday’s high will climb to 48 degrees, with winds from the west-southwest at 5 to 10 mph, Schack said. She said skies will be partly cloudy, with a slight chance for rain.
Wednesday’s morning low will be 15 degrees, with the high climbing to 51 degrees by Wednesday afternoon, with sunny skies, she said.
