From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 18, 1906: “People who are using natural gas are in a position to view with equanimity the prospects for a big coal strike this year. : The wedding of Alice Roosevelt and Rep. Longworth could be the most important wedding ever held in this country and the interest in newspapers for reports about it would seem to verify that. : The property in the city jail has been badly damaged. Doc Burns had scarcely heard his sentence of 60 days for turning over the jail stove when a crazy drunk just put in the cell this morning demolished the stove and all the other breakable articles in the jail and then called, ‘Fire!'”
