KU back in California

Jayhawks set for three games in L.A.

? Kansas University’s baseball squad is making another trip west, this time to the Public Storage Classic at USC’s Dedeaux Field for a three-game set.

The Jayhawks (6-2) will open play at 8 tonight against host USC (5-3) – the first-ever meeting between the schools. Junior left-hander Sean Land (2-0, 2.25 earned-run average) will start for KU against the Trojans’ Ian Kennedy (1-1, 2.08).

Kennedy is no pushover – the junior righty is projected by Baseball America as the No. 7 pick in June’s amateur draft.

Kansas will play San Diego at 2 p.m. Saturday and Vanderbilt at 2 p.m. Sunday. Senior righties Ricky Fairchild (2-0, 2.61) and Kodiak Quick (1-1, 3.00) are the penciled Jayhawk starters.

KU is rolling after last weekend’s series at Stanford, where the Jayhawks went 2-1 against the Cardinal. KU seniors Don Czyz and Gus Milner were named the Big 12 Conference pitcher and player of the week Tuesday, and Milner was named co-national player of the week Wednesday by collegiatebaseballinsider.com.
