KDOT to attend study session on SLT

City and county commissioners will have another chance to lobby state transportation leaders about the uncompleted South Lawrence Trafficway.

Leaders from the Kansas Department of Transportation will participate in a joint study session between the city and the county regarding the bypass project at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday at City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets.

Mayor Boog Highberger asked for the meeting as part of his efforts to convince state leaders that the uncompleted portion of the road should be built south of the Wakarusa River. But two of the three county commissioners have supported a 32nd Street route, which would run the road through the Baker Wetlands. KDOT and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also support the 32nd Street route.
