Old Home Town

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 14, 1906: “The members of the G.A.R. in Lawrence say there was never a better celebration in that order than the Lincoln Birthday celebration yesterday afternoon in the headquarters at the courthouse. Speeches were good, food was excellent and the spirits were high. : Emporia Elks now say they plan to have a minstrel show such as the one in Lawrence that has been so popular. Everyone, it seems, is trying to imitate Lawrence’s successful shows. . . . The ‘oldest native Kansan’ is said to be a man only 49 years old at Highland. It seems sure there is an older native-born Kansan in Douglas County.”
