South Carolina secures sweep

No. 7 Florida falls to Gamecocks for second time this season

? Tre’ Kelley scored 17 points, made three free throws in the final 26 seconds and had a key steal down the stretch that helped South Carolina defeat No. 7 Florida, 71-67, Wednesday night.

The Gamecocks ended the second-longest home winning streak in the nation at 20 games and swept the Gators for the first time since the 1997-98 season.

Florida’s Lee Humphrey hit his fourth three-pointer to make it 69-67 with about 20 seconds to play, then Kelley missed one of two free throws to give the Gators (20-3, 6-3 Southeastern Conference) a final chance.

But Brandon Wallace blocked Taurean Green’s three-point shot, and the Gamecocks (12-10, 3-6) became the first road team to celebrate a victory in the O’Connell Center since Tennessee beat Florida, 83-76 in overtime, on Jan. 19, 2005.

Bryce Sheldon made four three-pointers and finished with a season-high 14 points for the Gamecocks.

Joakim Noah led the Gators with 15.

No. 1 Connecticut 73, Syracuse 50

Hartford, Conn – Rudy Gay had 22 points and 13 rebounds and to lead the Huskies to their 10th straight victory.

Josh Boone added 10 points and 11 rebounds for UConn (21-1, 8-1 Big East).

Darryl Watkins had 12 points and nine rebounds for Syracuse (16-7, 4-5).

Washington – Danilo Pinnock scored 21 points, and the Colonials won their 11th straight game.

George Washington (19-1, 9-0 Atlantic 10), which opened with a 14-3 run, got 20 points from Pops Mensah-Bonsu.

Freshman Charles Little scored 13 points to lead Dayton (11-13, 3-7).

No. 12 Michigan St. 77, Purdue 52

East Lansing, Mich. – Paul Davis scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half to lead the Spartans.

Maurice Ager added 16 points for Michigan State. (18-5, 6-3 Big Ten).

Marcus White led Purdue (8-14, 2-9) with 14 points.

No. 16 N.C. State 86, Miami 77, 2 OT

Coral Gables, Fla. – Cameron Bennerman scored 23 points, and the Wolfpack earned their second double-overtime win in four games.

Ilian Evtimov finished with 16 points for N.C. State (19-4, 8-2 Atlantic Coast Conference).

Robert Hite scored 22 points for Miami (14-9, 6-4).

No. 17 Boston College 72, Wake Forest 66

Wisnton-Salem, N.C. – Freshman Tyrese Rice set season highs with 23 points and six three-pointers for the Eagles.

Boston College (18-5, 6-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) moved into a tie for third in the conference with Miami.

Justin Gray scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half for the Demon Deacons (12-11, 1-9).

Northwestern 51, No. 18 Iowa 48

Evanston, Ill. – Vedran Vukusic scored 26 points and converted the go-ahead three-point play to lead the Wildcats (11-10, 4-6 Big Ten) to the upset.

Greg Brunner led the Hawkeyes (18-6, 7-3) with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Wisconsin 72, No. 24 Indiana 54

Madison, Wis. – Alando Tucker scored 29 points, and the Badgers (16-7, 6-4 Big Ten) snapped a three-game losing streak.

Marco Killingsworth scored a team-high 14 points for the Hoosiers (13-7, 5-4).
