No. 20 Sooners survive turf war

? Terrell Everett scored 23 points, and Michael Neal added 12 as No. 20 Oklahoma beat Oklahoma State, 73-65, Wednesday night for its first road victory in the Bedlam series in six years.

Senior Kevin Bookout had 13 points in his first victory in Stillwater in four tries, and freshman Taylor Griffin added 12 points in relief of benched star Taj Gray.

The Sooners (15-5, 6-3 Big 12) extended their nine-point halftime lead when Neal hit a three-pointer from the right wing, and Griffin tapped a long inbounds pass to Bookout for a two-handed dunk.

Griffin, in the game after Gray picked up his third foul, got behind the Cowboys’ defense again and was fouled before hitting two free throws to give Oklahoma a 43-29 lead with 10:36 to play.

Bookout scored inside off a Neal lob, and Griffin added a three-point play to extend the 52-34 with 6:33 left.

JamesOn Curry sparked a Cowboys rally when he streaked through a passing lane for a steal and soared for a right-handed jam, then followed it with a three-pointer.

Byron Eaton and Mario Boggan hit consecutive threes to get Oklahoma State (13-10, 3-6) within nine, and another three by Eaton cut the deficit to 65-57 with 1:13 to play. The Cowboys continued exchanging threes for Oklahoma free throws and two-pointers and got as close as 69-63 on Jamaal Brown’s three in the final minute.

Texas A&M 61, Colorado 58

College Station, Texas – Dominque Kirk hit a jumper with eight seconds left, and Martellus Bennett added two free throws with a second left to lead the Aggies past the Buffaloes.

Acie Law IV scored 19 points for Texas A&M (14-7, 4-6), including nine in a 15-5 run that tied the game at 45-45 with 7:16 left.

Richard Roby led Colorado (15-5, 5-4) with 22 points, including four three-pointers.

Kansas State 66, Iowa State 63

Manhattan – Cartier Martin scored a team-high 22 points as the Wildcats held off the Cyclones.

The victory snapped Kansas State’s three-game losing streak, while Iowa State lost its fourth straight game in Manhattan. Martin was 4-of-7 from behind the three-point line, including the basket that gave the Wildcats (13-7, 4-5) the lead for good with 2:23 left in the game.

Curtis Stinson led the Cyclones (14-8, 4-5) with 22 points, his sixth straight game with 20 points or more.
