Cold this morning, but warming up to 40s

Schack: Overnight low was coldest so far this winter

About 4 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was only 11 degrees, making it the coldest morning so far this winter, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It’s a great start if you don’t mind cold temperatures,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “I think well see a decent amount of sunshine in the morning, then partly cloudy skies in the afternoon.”

At 8:20 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 20 degrees, the humidity was 74 percent and winds were out of the southeast at 6 mph, making the windchill 12 degrees, Schack said. The average low for this date is 24 degrees. The record low for this date was minus 19 in 1899.

Winds will pick up today, coming in from the south at 10 to 18 mph, Schack said.

“We’re heading up to 45 degrees,” she said. The average high temperature for this date is 44 degrees and the record high was 74 degrees, set in 1943.

Tonight, winds will come in from the west at 5 to 10 mph and the temperature will fall to 24 degrees by early Friday morning, Schack said.

Friday’s high temperature will climb to only 35 degrees, with northwesterly winds 10 to 15 mph, she said.

“It looks rather chilly on Friday. But it looks just plain old cold on Saturday,” Schack said.

Saturday’s morning low will drop to 19 degrees, with Saturday’s high reaching only 30 degrees, she said.
