Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 8, 1906: “Lawrence High School will soon have a manual training department in connection with its regular school work. The plans have been contemplated for some time and Monday evening, money was appropriated to pay for the Claypool building just south of the Central school building. It is to be fitted immediately for training many agree is needed here. It an excellent addition to the courses here. The cost of the building was $1,300. : Henry Childers filed suit in St. Louis yesterday for a divorce from Kate Childers, to whom he alleged he was married in Lawrence when he was only 15 years old and she was 23. He says she drove him from her home after only a few days and he has not seen her since. He says he was taken advantage of, is a sort of orphan and that his mother did not give consent for a license to wed. Anyone recall this marriage?”
