Old Home Town

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 5, 1906: “The sheriff’s force and the police made several arrests of jointists over the weekend and the raids have secured quite a quantity of wet goods. Some old offenders were caught along with a number of new ones. : For several days there has been horse-racing reported on Vermont Street, with trotters hitched to sulkies. Complaints were filed and several offenders have been caught by the marshal. Such activity is illegal in the city. : The state board of health has issued a list of impure foods that should not be consumed, many bought in Lawrence, and publication is planned in every county in the state to protect the public.”
