Old Home Town

100 years ago in 1906

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 4, 1906: “Police last night caught two small boys fitting various keys into the doors of some Massachusetts Street stores. The youngsters had not been able to enter any stores but are likely to wind up at the Hutchinson reform school : Topeka’s high school has grown much faster than the town and now has 1,145 pupils. Four years ago the enrollment was only 600. . . . A blast to help prepare the site of the new gym at the university sent a 15-pound rock through the roof of the chemistry building. Years from now it may become known as a record shot put for KU.”
