Old Home Town

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 3, 1906: “At the regular monthly meeting of the board of regents last evening, the plans for the new university gymnasium were presented by State Architect Stanton. The new building when completed will be one of the finest if not the finest in the West. Everything imaginable is up-to-date and the plans were drawn up with the aid of Dr. James Naismith after he had toured many noted gymnasiums elsewhere in the country. There will be swimming pool, locker rooms and thousands will be able to benefit from this fine three-story structure with the pool in the basement. There will be classrooms, a large auditorium with a running track : It appears the cost will be something like $100,000.”
