Cool-down begins for weekend
Snow in the forecast for Sunday night
Don’t put away your winter clothes just yet – cooler weather is on tap for today, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.
“I think you’ll need a coat on your way out today,” Schack said.
Unlike earlier this week, when temperatures reached the 60s, today’s high will reach only into the mid 40s, Schack said.
“Breezy northwest winds will usher in some cooler air,” she said. “The cool-down begins.”
At 2:15 p.m., the temperature was 43 degrees, the humidity was 47 percent and winds were from the northwest at 15 mph, gusting to 28 mph, making the windchill 36 degrees.
Today’s high temperature will be 49 degrees, with clouds moving in this afternoon. The average high for this date is 42 degrees and the record high was 79, set in 1934, Schack said. The average low temperature for this date is 23 degrees and the record low was minus 10 in 1908.
“We’re dropping down another notch on Saturday,” Schack said.
Saturday’s morning low temperature will be 22 degrees. Saturday’s high will be 43 degrees, with mostly sunny skies. Winds will be out of the northwest at 10-15 mph, she said.
“That’s about average for this time of year,” Schack said. “And then we drop down below average as we head toward Sunday.”
Sunday’s morning low will be 20 degrees, with the high temperature reaching only 38, Schack said.
Heading out to a Super Bowl XL party on Sunday? Skies will be mostly cloudy Sunday afternoon and evening, with the possibility of snow in the evening through Monday morning, Schack said. The National Weather Service says there’s a 20 percent chance for snow on Sunday night.
