Owens catches K.C.’s eye

Peterson: Chiefs somewhat interested

? The Kansas City Chiefs are “somewhat interested” in Terrell Owens, the receiver suspended in November by the Philadelphia Eagles, president and general manager Carl Peterson said.

Peterson pointed to the track record of his new head coach, Herman Edwards, in dealing successfully with difficult players. Owens was suspended by the Eagles for the rest of the season after repeatedly criticizing the team and quarterback Donovan McNabb.

“I’ve always felt Herm has the ability to bridge the gap between a lot of players, whether they’re black or white, whether they’re offense or defense or special teams, whether they’re superstars or backup players,” Peterson said.

“Now, based on that, certainly I will have this conversation with him, and I’m sure there are other teams in the NFL who will do the same thing,” he said.

Owens has five seasons left on the $48.97 million contract he signed in 2004, but the Eagles have given him permission to talk to other teams about a possible trade. If he’s still on the Philadelphia roster March 1, he is due $7.5 million.

Owens had 77 catches for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns his first season with the Eagles. He appeared in only seven games this season, with 47 catches for 763 yards and six touchdowns.
